Through its SAVE Multimedia Archive System, NewsBank can create and manage any publication’s archives and provide publishers with tools that enable staff and others across the organization to access and search these archives. Publishers can also let staff and other personnel access and simultaneously search all publications within the same ownership group.

Efficient archive creation and immediate access
NewsBank’s SAVE Multimedia Archiving System does not require expensive hardware and software on-site for each publication. However, SAVE enables publishers to make all current and archived text, photos, graphics, PDFs and other news elements easily available to staff and personnel across the entire organization. SAVE’s value-added utilities also enable publishers to more effectively leverage their archives to generate revenue or share access to content, should the publisher want to make its archive available to external sites and bureaus, the public and vendors online.

Effective search and retrieval and easy content integration
After the archive is created and immediate access is granted, users across the organization can enjoy powerful search capabilities. With a single search, reporters and staff can easily retrieve either specific text or images or both simultaneously. SAVE offers a wide range of search and sort options, including full-text, field and date, and its guided search feature makes searching and retrieving text and images easy for both experienced and inexperienced users. SAVE simplifies the linking of text and images, so news articles can be stored quickly with related photos, graphs and more. SAVE also enables users at any newsroom workstation to recall text and images and reuse the files in their original formats.

The research value of archived content
Providing reporters, researchers and other staff administrators with immediate internal access to their publication’s backfiles enables them to more thoroughly research and understand news, issues and events. Using archived information, staff can trace the history of coverage on any subject, as well as track trends and developments, construct timelines, identify cause and effect relationships, even discover details that were overlooked in background research.
