Readex Enhances Web-Based America's Historical Newspapers Collection with Integrated Interface

New Interface Enables Cross-Search of All Early American Newspapers Series, Including Over 1,000 U.S. Titles Published Between 1690 and 1922

NAPLES, Fla./Thursday, September 14, 2006 - Readex, a leading publisher of online historical collections, announced today the release of a new interface for its Web-based America's Historical Newspapers collection, which includes Early American Newspapers, Series I, II and III, 1690-1922.

An integral part of Readex's acclaimed Web-based Archive of Americana®, America's Historical Newspapers offers fully searchable reproductions of more than 500,000 complete issues from over 1,000 historical American newspapers published in all 50 present states - totaling more than five million pages. Digitized primarily from the extensive historical newspaper holdings of the American Antiquarian Society (AAS), the Wisconsin Historical Society and the Library of Congress, America's Historical Newspapers is essential for researching American history, culture and daily life over several centuries.

"This important enhancement of America's Historical Newspapers provides a simpler, more intuitive search screen and other new features designed to make searching easier and more productive for both novice and experienced users," said Michelle Harper, Readex Product Director.

The new America's Historical Newspapers interface provides a clickable map of the United States to help limit searches by state and region; pre-configured options for "Presidential Eras" and "Eras in American History" that limit searches by timeframe and snippets - or targeted previews - of articles within search results to help users understand context and save time.

"With easier access to such a wealth of 18th-, 19th- and 20th-century historical American newspapers, students and scholars at hundreds of institutions around the world now have new opportunities to research wide-ranging aspects of what life was really like for all earlier Americans. Additionally, new series of historical U.S. newspapers to be announced by Readex this year will provide hundreds more titles, including African American, Native American and women's newspapers," said David Braden, Readex President.
